Opened by a man who's been chipping chips for nearly 50 years, Poppies are playing on their old school East End cred. A soundtrack of 40s crooners and staff in floral aprons may provide a retro gloss, but the sustainable sourcing policy is modern and welcome. Our fish cakes were packed with well-seasoned white fish and the homemade tartar source worked well alongside. One complaint: the waitresses weren't quite as sweet as their pinnies and a little brusque.
