Back-comb or go home
Huge hair is, well, huge right now
Whether it’s scarves, heels or lunch portions, bigger is always better. The same goes for party hair. ’Tis the season to perfect that back-combing technique, because there’s only one thing that’ll go with every party dress, and that’s a massive ‘do. Not sure how to go about it? We’ve got a step-by-step guide to help you go big, so you don’t have to go home.
1. Section it
Start with small sections underneath your hair and work up to the outer layers to go full beehive, or take larger sections from the top if you’re a newbie/going round to your gran’s and can’t face any “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO YOUR HAIR?” comments. Use pins for the sections you’re not focusing on – otherwise it can get really confusing.
2. Back-comb, baby
Starting from about halfway down, work the Back-Combing hairbrush against hair growth right up to the roots. Remember the rule: the more you brush, the higher the hair. Some people prefer to spray as they go, while others like to wait until the end before setting. We would recommend the former, as it’ll ensure your style stays put.
3. Smooth down
And you’re finished! Just kidding. If you’ve done it right, you should look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge. Don’t panic: the final stage is all about smoothing. Use the brush and the flat of your hand to shape your hair’s top layers and tame the flyaways. If you still don’t have the volume your heart desires, repeat until you do.
