Go coastal

Put the colours of the British seaside in your make-up bag, with ice cream and beach hut shades

Sweet cheeks

Illamasqua’s Powder Blusher range is one of the best offering ice-cream shades. And by ice cream, what we really mean is colours representing the choice of the indecisive gelato fan: Neapolitan. We’ve picked our favourite shades here – Allure, Intrigue and Nymph – but there are plenty more. £22 each, Illamasqua

Ocean liner

Lush’s HQ is based by the marina in Poole and its liquid eyeliner in Motivation is billed as the “colour of the sea on a nice day”. We would argue it’s more than a nice day – this is the kind of colour you get far out to sea, towards the horizon, on the rare days of flawless British weather. £14.50, Lush

Rock lips

We're pretty sure no-one buys rock to eat (so synthetic, so unsatisfying, so stuck in your teeth) but rather because the sticks are so kitsch and colourful. There isn’t a line of lipsticks in the style of rock yet – pick it up beauty brands – but Topshop’s All About Me shade does a good job of mimicking that bright baton of sugary nostalgia. £8, Topshop

Beach hut tips

Deputy editor Mollie recently spent a weekend Broadstairs in Kent and returned with a photo library full of quaint, painted beach huts. The images make the perfect nail polish inspiration swatches. Nailberry’s pastel shades in baby blue, candy floss and minty fresh fit the bill. £14.50 each, Nailberry
