Minimalist shades and long talons are on-trend for the year ahead
EMERALD SHADES
Pantone predicted its colour Emerald 17-5641 to be dominant in 2013. Clair Rose, retail beauty expert, agrees. “Look out for fresh spring shades of candy-like green, right up to rich emerald greens. My favourite shades are Reflecting Algae by Artdeco [£9.50] and Emerald Fitzgerald by China Glaze [£5.95].”
NUDE NAILS
“I interviewed manicurist Marian Newman at the Donna Karan SS13 shows and she said nude nails were the strongest nail trend she’d seen in 15 years,” says Stylist deputy beauty editor Samantha Flowers. “She used Quiet Time by Mac at a lot of shows and I think it’s great, too.” Nail Lacquer in Quiet Time, £10, Mac
LONG TALONS
“This season we have seen a longer nail with trend-setting celebrities like Rita Ora and Rihanna,” says nail expert Leighton Denny. He’s also seen a rise in almond-shape nails. “The shape makes nails look slimmer and more elegant.” Use Leighton Denny’s Trio three-sided buffer, £4.50, to gently shape your nail tips.
PATTERN WORK
“We saw injections of colour and texture at the SS13 shows,” says Laura Hughes, head of Orly education. “You can recreate this trend at home with Orly French FX kits, which allow you to experiment with neon and metallic polishes. You can also add textures such as crystals or mesh.” FX Kit, £14.95, Orly
THE ART OF OMBRE
Andrew Style of Filthy Gorgeous says ombre is his favourite nail trend for this year. It was executed perfectly at Gareth Pugh’s SS13 show. “It works great with the nude trend, fading into a bright neon tip.” Style suggests creating the effect with Filthy Gorgeous’ Rosey Posey – Neon Pink and Grunge – Putty Nude, £9 each.
