Short stories: Head Land, edited by Rodge Glass
The Edge Hill Short Story Prize has been running for 10 years now and they’ve published Head Land to celebrate
We’ve covered a lot of short story collections in these reviews, but, despite some really astonishing collections coming out and more attention being paid in general, short stories just don’t receive the love that novels do. Edge Hill University, based in Ormskirk, are on the same page as us and run the only short story prize for a collection by a British or Irish writer.
The Edge Hill Short Story Prize has been running for 10 years now and they’ve published Head Land to celebrate. The quality of the writers involved is incredible: there’s a touching, twisting story from Ali Smith, a terrifying eco-parable from Helen Simpson, plus contributions from Neil Gaiman and China Melville. If you’re looking for somewhere to start small, this is your collection.
