Weekend Guide

Things to do this weekend in London: October 7 – 9

You’ve got two days (and a couple more nights) to make London your personal labyrinth

A still from the film American Honey

Popcorn time

Tickets to this year’s BFI London Film Festival are, naturally, selling like extremely hot cakes. But you can still get yourself seats to see acclaimed drama American Honey, Isabelle Huppert in Elle and the eerie Christine, starring Rebecca Hall. Until 16 Oct; various London locations

Art gallery

Hanging around

Want to put more pictures up, but have no idea where to start looking? The Other Art Fair brings together a whopping 130 artists under one roof, including Juliana Manara, Anna Fafaliou and Etienne Clément. They’re all emerging, exciting talents, so get in now before the collectors pile in. Until 9 Oct; from £7.04; Old Truman Brewery, Hanbury Street, E1

Make and do

While clothes shopping in actual stores might fill us with dread (it’s the changing room queues), there’s nothing like picking up unique treats in person. Crafty Fox Market is back in Peckham with tons of handmade treats, from homeware to jewellery. 8 & 9 Oct; 11am – 5pm; free entry; CLF Art Café, The Bussey Building, 133 Rye Lane, SE15

Letters Live at the Freemasons Hall London

Word of mouth

There’s nothing quite like Letters Live: it’s a quiet behemoth of an event which sees huge names from the arts read moving, funny or poignant letters of note to a live audience. Who you get to entertain you each evening is a surprise, which makes it even more special. Tickets available 7 & 8 Oct; from £43.45; Freemason’s Hall, 60 Great Queen’s Street, WC2B

A negroni served at London Cocktail Week

Drink it in

As part of London Cocktail Week, there are mixology-related gigs going on all over the city. For those who simply cannot choose, head down to the Cocktail Village at Old Spitalfields Market. Essentially a booze-soaked hub of pop-up bars, restaurants and things to buy. Until 9 Oct; £10 entry; Old Spitalfields Market, EC1
