A Timeline of Earth’s Average Temperature: it’s getting hot on here
An illustration of how our planet’s climate has changed since 20,000 BCE. But, y'know, funny
Now it’s autumn, it's been raining, and we don’t mean to get all SAD on you. But what if we managed to combine depressing with a hint of education and a hint of funny? “A Timeline of Earth’s Average Temperature” is a very lengthy (understandably, given the subject matter) strip from web comic xkcd –which is run by Randall Munroe, a cartoonist who used to work at NASA. And it’s exactly that – an illustration of how our planet’s climate has changed since 20,000 BCE alongside helpful generational markers, like “8500: cattle domesticated”.
