Travel: The Wagon Station Encampment – we’re camping USA

This project by artist Andrea Zittel pushes the term 'creative retreat' to its limits

Creative retreats are one thing, but a project by artist Andrea Zittel pushes the envelope a little bit further. Pushes it all the way out to the southern Californian desert, near Joshua Tree National Park. The Wagon Station Encampment is a community of 12 individual station wagons set alongside a communal kitchen, open-air showers and compostable loos, and anyone can apply for a stay over two seasons a year – you just need to prove you’re thoughtful and considerate. And like the idea of living on the set of a sci-fi movie for a bit, probably.
