Manchester Weekend Guide: Nothing on the TV, nothing on the radio

Razorlight are in town! So is Donkey Kong! It’s an interesting line-up for the next few days, to say the least

Super trouper

What began in 1972 as an impromptu street party with less than 100 people in attendance has grown to become one of Manchester’s biggest, brightest, liveliest events. The Caribbean Carnival is back this weekend with 10 stages of entertainment: all sorts of live music, comedy, stalls, and food, plus the main parade on Saturday afternoon. 12-13 Aug; free; Alexandra Park, 180 Russell St, M16

Golden touch

Now 10 years old, Rochdale Feel Good Festival have managed to secure Razorlight as their headliners for the free two-day event. The main stage will have the town hall as its backdrop, plus there’ll be a food court, family entertainment, and a circus. Because no weekend is complete without a circus. 11-12 Aug; Fri 5-10.30pm, Sat 11am-11pm; free; Rochdale Town Centre, OL16

Radical ramblings

Manchester played an important role in the battle to get votes for women – and there’s more to it than just the Pankhurst family. Follow historian Michael Herbert as he leads a guided walking tour through the city, and learn more about the fight that waged for decades, and our city’s suffragettes. 12 Aug; 11.30am; £8; begins outside Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, M2
